Event: Wales Exercise Medicine Symposium

Date: Saturday 12th January 2019

Venue: University Hospital, Wales, Cardiff

Summary: The 6th Wales Exercise Medicine Symposium and we hope to build on the successes of the previous five years. The day will consist of eminent speakers addressing the current & controversial issues in the field.

Description: Previous years have seen almost 300 delegates attending from around the UK, with endorsements from many national associations including: BASEM, FSEM, ECOSEP, and BASES. The day will bring together academic researchers with health professionals and provide a platform to help drive Wales forward as a centre of excellence in exercise medicine. We are applying for CPD points for RCP, FSEM and REPS.

To once again make the symposium stand out we will not only be hosting inspiring talks but also controversial ones which are not just a repeat of similar events around the UK. The programme will be structured around a morning of keynote speakers including Professor Danny Green (University of Western Australia, leading researcher in cardiovascular exercise physiology in the School of Human Sciences), Professor Diane Crone (Professor in Exercise and Health at the Cardiff School of Sport and Health Sciences), Dr Abbas Zaidi (Consultant Cardiologist, University Hospital of Wales) and Dr Brendon Stubbs (Head of Physiotherapist at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation trust, clinical lecturer at King’s College London). The afternoon session will feature breakout sessions from Cardiff School of Sport, Swansea University and Coventry University with topics including:

Cardiovascular Adaptations with exercise
