2018 Winner of the Fellowship Doctoral Level Research in SEM Award – Dr Pria Krishnasamy
Dr Pria Krishnasamy, a Fellow of the Faculty of Sport & Exercise Medicine UK (FFSEM UK), is currently a PhD Candidate at the University of Sydney. She began her medical career at the Queens University of Belfast in 2002, completed her Masters in Sport & Exercise Medicine (MSc SEM) with merit at the University of Nottingham in 2007 before completing her SEM specialist training in London. She worked as a Consultant in SEM in Singapore before commencing her PhD candidacy in October 2016.
She has also worked with various sport teams and events, including the London Olympics in 2012 and more recently, the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. She is a keen advocate for research in musculoskeletal medicine and has chaired scientific meetings, including the Singapore Sports Medicine Annual Symposium in 2016. Her research and clinical interests are in exercise both in wellness and chronic diseases, and her current research focus, which is the topic of her Doctoral degree, is on the role of skeletal muscle in knee osteoarthritis.
