The Undergraduate Sports and Exercise Medicine Society
USEMS is a non-profit society working to promote the speciality of Sport and Exercise Medicine (SEM) to all interested students of physiotherapy, medicine and dentistry in the UK. Other students and professionals who have an interest in Sport and Exercise Medicine/Science are encouraged to follow our news and events closely.
BASEM & USEMS
BASEM has been a staunch supporter of USEMS since its advent in 2011. Not only has it promoted, supported and provided vast networking and educational opportunities for students, but it has also generously sponsored many USEMS events, ensuring the next generation of SEM professionals are provided educational opportunities during their training at a reasonable cost. USEMS do not hesitate to recommend that anyone with an interest in SEM sign-up as a member of BASEM (regardless of profession) as there are a whole host of associated benefits.
USEMS Conference
Applications to host the annual conference are accepted each Spring.
A 600 – 700 word application is required, explaining why your Society should run next years’ conference. Again, all information will be released on social media and on this page regarding applying to hold the conference.
A guide from last year’s conference can be obtained from a member of the USEMS committee at usemscommittee@gmail.com
Intercalation
After feedback from James Murphy, the author of this blog, USEMS is working to put together an up to date list of all Sport and Exercise Medicine related intercalated degrees. If you are interested in any of the degrees mentioned in the blog and would like to get in touch with past students to enquire about the courses please do not hesitate to contact USEMS (usemscommittee@gmail.com) and we can try and help.
Electives
Electives are great opportunities to explore future careers. Please visit this blog to explore examples of Sport and Exercise Medicine based electives. The authors of the blog are happy to be contacted if you would like more information on their experiences. Please do not hesitate to contact USEMS (usemscommittee@gmail.com) if you would like any more information on SEM electives, home or abroad.
