Malcolm Read Scholarship

The UKADIS Malcolm Read Scholarship in Sport and Exercise Medicine

Following the amalgamation of UKADIS with BASEM at the end of 2005, the former board and membership of UKADIS generously decided that left over UKADIS funds be invested in the form of an annual professional development scholarship.

In honour of Malcolm’s outstanding contribution to Sport and Exercise Medicine, an annual scholarship has been established in his name.  The award will provide financial assistance to support a BASEM member who wishes to undertake professional development in overseas centres of excellence.  The idea is to reward work by a clinician, who, in the tradition of Malcolm Read, contributes to the practice of Sport and Exercise medicine by using practical/clinical experience to shape thinking within the field.  The award is intended to be accessible to relatively small projects and studies which would not otherwise attract funding or a large audience. For example, it may be used for funding international travel for further study at a Centre of Excellence, providing medical cover for touring with international sports teams, clinically based research projects within the UK, educational projects within the UK, and other projects which fall into the general category of Clinical Sport and Exercise medicine.

This award is open to all BASEM members including Registrars and particularly GPs who have a paper to present. The award may be used for retrieving statistical information/mentoring/research support, as well as the option to travel to an educational centre of choice.

Previous/Current winner(s) of this award will be announced on this page soon.

The announcement to request applications for the 2012 award will be made via the BASEM Ecircular and this page later on in the year.
