Dr David Hemery, CBE

 

David Hemery (MBE '69, CBE '03) married with two boys in their twenties, is best known for his days in sport, both as Olympic Champion & World Record holder in the 400m hurdles and later three times winner of Superstars. Since then he has been a coach, teacher, manager and writer, and is currently Vice Chairman of British Olympic Association. He became Patron of BASEM in October 2009.

  • 1969 - Qualified St Thomas' Hospital
  • Spent 5 years in Army including 2 years with Gurkhas in Hong Kong
  • 1980 - 14 years GP set up sports injury clinic.
  • 20 years a session at Olympic Med Centre
  • Team doc GB rowing 14 years, 20 years World Rowing Med Commission and anti-doping committee
  • Retired March 2011

  • Academic post at University College London which includes co-organising the MSc programme.

  • Other elite sporting experience includes working with Women's Basketball and Women's Football, World University Games and Youth Olympics
  • 8 years experience working with a variety of sporting and academic instituitions including the BOA, FA and Queen Mary University London
