BASEM Executive Nominations
Position: BASEM Treasurer
Term of Office: 3 years (to commence 25/11/2011)
Purpose: To maintain an overview of BASEM’s financial affairs, ensuring its financial viability and ensuring that proper financial records and procedures are maintained.
General Responsibilities:
To be a Director
To commit to attending Executive Meetings (held 4 times per year)
To ensure that BASEM complies with its governing document (including pursuing its objects as defined therein), charity law, company law, and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
To ensure that BASEM’s resources are applied exclusively in pursuance of its objectives.
To contribute actively to the Executive Board’s role in giving firm strategic direction to BASEM, including setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets, and evaluating performance against agreed targets.
To safeguard the reputation and values of BASEM.
To ensure the effective and efficient administration of BASEM.
To ensure the financial stability of BASEM.
To protect and manage the property of BASEM, and to ensure the proper investment of its funds.
To contribute to the appointment and monitoring of the performance of the senior staff.
To work closely with the BASEM Office Manager in all aspects of the role.
Additional Responsibilities:
To oversee the presentation and approval of budgets, accounts and financial statements to the BASEM AGM and to the Executive Board.
To require assurance that the financial resources of BASEM meet its present and future needs.
To ensure the development of an appropriate reserves policy.
To ensure the development of an appropriate investment policy.
To ensure that there is no conflict between investments held and BASEM’s aims and values.
To monitor BASEM’s investment activity and ensure its consistency both with policy and with legal responsibilities.
To ensure that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place with the BASEM Office Manager.
To liaise with the BASEM Office Manager regarding finance and payroll staff about financial matters, and other staff as appropriate.
To advise on the financial implications of BASEM’s strategic plans.
To ensure BASEM’s compliance with financial legislation.
To ensure that the equipment and assets are adequately maintained and ensured through the BASEM Office Manager.
To oversee the preparation and disclosure of accounts as required by statutory bodies and by BASEM constitution.
To have responsibility that accounts are audited as required, and that audit recommendations are implemented.
To inform the Executive Board about its financial duties and responsibilities.
To contribute to BASEM’s fundraising strategy.
To provide brief and comprehensible presentations of the accounts, either verbally or in writing – e.g. AGM/Annual Report, in conjunction with the BASEM Office Manager.
Person Specification: General:
Ideally knowledge and experience of the voluntary and community sector and some knowledge of BASEM itself

Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of an executive role

Role of Treasurer:
Financial experience and/or ideally financial qualifications
Experience of managing finance and and financial accountability
Skills to analyse proposals and examine their financial consequences
Skills to analyse and interpret fairly complex financial data
Experience in budget-setting and monitoring
Ability to present financial information and make it understandable for non-finance people
Willingness and approachability to deal with enquiries from Executives and staff
Ability to make recommendations to the Executive Board based purely on sound financial advice
Position: BASEM Membership Secretary
Term of Office: 3 years(to commence 25/11/2011).
To be a Director of the Association
To commit to attending Executive Meetings (held 4 times per year)
To attend BASEM Exec Meetings and to report the activities of the membership secretary to the meeting.
To review membership number, trends & recruitment activity to the Executive, using membership data provided by the BASEM Office Manager
To review and develop BASEM’s relationships with academic institutions/such providers of postgraduate SEM MSc/Diplomas
To review and develop BASEM’s relationships with sporting organisations such as the FA, RFU, ECB, LTA etc.
To develop ways of identifying the needs of BASEM’s members by enhanced communication (analysis of Congress/Spring Meeting feedback forms, questionnaires etc.
To liaise with BASEM Office Manager, BASEM Education Officer, BASEM Sponsorship & Marketing Officer, to raise BASEM’s profile.
To network at other events, along with membership post holder, to raise the profile of BASEM at relevant meetings & exhibitions.
Position: BASEM Professional Relations Officer
Term of Office: 3 years(to commence 25/11/2011).
To be a Director of the Association
To commit to attending Executive Meetings (held 4 times per year)
Link on behalf of BASEM members, building good relations and in regular communication with all organisations involved with delivering research & training in all aspects of SEM.
Including, but not linked to:-
The FSEM, including SAC, STC’s, ISM (research).
Sports bodies: – UK Sports, Olympic movement (BOA, BPA, LOCOG, NGB’s)
Linking with Professional Sports bodies
Medical Defence Organisations
Universities – especially MSc in SEM.
Department of Health, NHS & Trusts
Other professions, eg; BASES, ACPSM.
Leading on issues pertinent to employment issues of members (exclusive of BMA role).
Define terms of such issues as indemnity, job plans & training in SEM.
Leading on 2012 reporting updates to BASEM Executive and maintaining links with relevant associated bodies.

Each member of the BASEM Executive does not receive remuneration, but receives reimbursement of reasonable expenses for attending Executive Meetings, Congress & Spring Meetings and other related meetings when representing BASEM
