REMO: Resuscitation and Emergency Management Onfield.
REMO Sports Limited is a registered company (No 5046028) and is proud to be associated with national sporting groups including the British Association of Sports and Exercise Medicine (BASEM) REMO Sports have developed a range of courses to provide training, specifically for Sports and Exercise Medicine practitioners. These courses have been produced to assist in raising the standards of emergency sports medicine care.
Three years was spent on initial development and we are now pleased to be providers of the only sport specific resuscitation and emergency management course of this style in Europe.
REMO Courses cover such things as:
Resuscitation, Basic and Advanced Life Support
-including the use of automated external defibrillators, and treatment of anaphylaxis. Management of airway and breathing emergencies
-including the use of emergency airway equipment and procedures. Treatment of orthopaedic emergencies
Spinal immobilisation, logrolling, helmet removal and spinal board use. Plus many other emergency skills for immediate medical care of the injured sportsperson.
Our courses include:
REMO Resuscitation and Emergency Management Onfield course, primarily for Doctors and Physiotherapists.
A two day course aimed directly at the onfield Doctor or Physiotherapist. The aims of the course are to provide lectures, skills station training and event incident recreation to teach and develop the emergency skills of the onfield practitioner. The majority of the course is practical and taught by experts in each discipline. Participants are provided with a comprehensive course manual of sports specific emergency care. The range of sports covered is extensive and encompasses most competitive events both professional and amateur.
The course is structured and is examined objectively. We are currently in negotiations to have the course formally approved and certified. Participants are recommended to attend the full course every three years. Course fees includes the comprehensive REMO Course manual. This manual is updated regularly to keep abreast of changes in evidence based practice and to reflect changes in European Resuscitation Council guidelines.
REMO Essentials
Yearly practical skills refresher for REMO certified sports practitioners
A one day non residential skills update and recreated incident practice day. “Essentials” was developed after requests from participants of the 2 day REMO course. The participants felt that three years was too long between training. Some of the comments collated from previous REMO Courses
“..We all get a little rusty”
“..I rarely have to deal with life threatening emergencies, I need practice”
“Excellent course… could you provide a yearly refresher just on the skills”.
We responded to these requests by developing “Essentials”.
There are no lectures, the programme is purely practical, with skills stations to refresh knowledge and then multiple opportunities to lead and participate in event simulated emergency situations.
The lectures in the full REMO course are a vital component to the knowledge required to be a competent onfield practitioner and this is why access to “REMO Essentials” will only be given to those who have already successfully completed the full REMO course in the previous 3 years.
REMO Principles
A one day course for onfield practitioners who are non medical.
We are all aware that much of the care of the athlete is provided by coaches, teachers, masseurs etc who are not employed full time in the medical field. The care that they provide should be based on exactly the same principles as the sports practitioners. The “principles“course, provides one day of practical teaching and reproduced event simulation conditions, the training provided is pitched without medical “jargon” and with the emphasis firmly on teaching the skills necessary to provide an adequate level of emergency care until more experienced help arrives, then importantly to be able to assist in the implementation of the treatment provided by the doctors, paramedics or physiotherapists. Only by understanding and practicing the same skills and procedures can the onfield practitioner instigate the correct treatment and be part of the continuum of emergency care.
We at REMO Sports believe in the statement by the Medical Defence Union that; There is no place for a token medical presence at sporting events. All people providing any level of assistance to injured athletes should be well trained and in possession of the knowledge and equipment to adequately deal with whatever type of emergency they may reasonably be expected to encounter. The REMO range of courses provide that level of training and in association with Galls/Dynamed medical supplies we are pleased to be able to offer access to all the equipment that may be required whatever the event you are covering.
Sports that we cover specifically at this stage include but are not limited to the following; however the skills taught are applicable to all sports,
Athletics Equestrian events Gymnastics All the major football codes Cycling Paddle sports Swimming Weightlifting Racquet sports Field team sports (Hockey, cricket, baseball etc) Outdoor pursuits (Climbing, bouldering, orienteering)
